Freckle Removal

Freckle Removal

What are Freckles?

If you have described yourself as ‘sun kissed’ you have surely noticed freckles or tiny light brown patches in some areas of you face, hands, neck and decolletage. While it is completely harmless, some people can find it unaesthetic requiring costly makeups to cover the area and achieve even skin tone.

Studies have shown that this condition is genetic and caused by the MC1R gene in people who can be frequently in the sun without added protection. Care must be taken to not mistake a mole for a freckle and have regular check-ups with your skin specialist/GP.

What are the treatment options for freckle removal?

Laser treatments involving white doll and black doll have several benefits of skin rejuvenation and brightening by removing dead skin and clogged pores giving you the appearance of firmer, even and toned skin. IPL can also help achieve a clearer, brighter looking skin but is less effective on darker skin tones.

Can freckles be removed permanently?

We have several options to get rid of freckles permanently at our clinic. Depending on the amount and how persistent the freckle is, you will be treated using a standalone laser treatment or a combination of chemical peel and laser treatment. We have also had great success in removing mild to moderate freckles using our world class IPL laser.

However, even if the existing freckles are lightened or removed, you’re still at risk of developing more freckles in the future. If you are committed to having freckle-free skin, stay sun smart by wearing broad-brimmed hat and applying a regular amount of sunscreen.

CO2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing

What is a CO2 fractional laser and how does it work?

CO2 fractional laser uses an ablative technique at a wavelength of 10,600nm that targets the water chromophore in the skin. The laser is scanned in a layer-by-layer fashion to avoid deep tissue destruction. As the skin heals, the formation of new healthy collagen tightens the skin and smooths out scars, wrinkles and other uneven skin textures.

CO2 laser is the most widely used treatment due to its clinical efficacy and therapeutic benefits, which have been confirmed over decades.

What does CO2 Fractional Laser Treat?

The fractional microablative CO2 laser skin resurfacing treatment is the international gold standard for skin resurfacing. It is an extremely safe and effective way to treat the below conditions with low downtime:

  • Acne scars
  • Sun damage
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Freckles
  • Skin tightening
  • Stretch marks
  • Pigmentation
  • Rough texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Skin laxity on the face, neck, chest and arms
  • Surgical scars

How much improvement can you expect after CO2 fractional laser resurfacing treatment at our state-of-the-art Brisbane clinic?

Clinical studies (including data from our clinic) have shown a 40-50% improvement in acne scarring from a single treatment, but results do vary between individuals.

How many treatments are needed?

This is really based on the initial consultation where your skin will be analysed to assess the treatment approach. Usually, 1-3 sessions are sufficient about 2-3 months apart. A small area will be tested initially to ensure that the treatment is safe and effective to you.

What does the procedure involve?

A detailed step-by-step guide will be provided during the consultation process for the CO2 treatment. During treatment, a numbing gel is applied before the laser treatment commences to keep you comfortable, and the process usually lasts about 30-60 minutes in total. We recommend taking a set of medications to reduce discomfort prior to leaving home for the treatment.

What happens after CO2 fractional laser resurfacing treatment?

Your skin will immediately start to feel a moderate sunburn as soon as the effectiveness of the numbing gel starts to wear off. You will be given post care instructions to follow with continual support from the clinician team. Within 3-4 days, your old skin should start shedding and your newer softer skin will start to form towards the surface.

You’ll be given a set of instructions to follow during this healing period. Continual application of SPF 50+ is a must for 7 days post-procedure to keep the skin healing and to prevent sun damage. You’ll also require a week off from any heavy sports/exercise during your healing period, for most optimal treatment outcomes.

When will I see improvements?

Improvements in skin can be seen from a week after treatment and can continue to improve for three to six months post treatment.

Active Acne Treatment

Acne doesn’t just go away on it’s own. Not treating it can actually make it worse. At E.W Cosmetic Injector & Laser we understand that acne can negatively impact your social life and can be incredibly taxing on your self-confidence.

Types of Acne

Acne also known as acne vulgaris is either referred to as active acne or acne scarring depending on the stage of the skin disorder.

Active Acne can be classified into the following types:

  • Mild – Whiteheads and blackheads covering areas of chin, cheeks, and forehead
  • Moderate – Mild acne symptoms with papules and pustules (red bumps with or without fluids)
  • Severe – Multiple large and often painful papules and pustules as well as cysts. May or may not have associated scarring.

Active acne is caused by the enlargement and blockage in the sebaceous glands due to bacterial infection in the skin. These often produce inflamed and pus-filled cysts that can be a cause of severe anxiety and frustration.

What results can I expect from treatments?

Every individual is different, and acne can vary too. Hence, you will be prescribed a course of treatment that is most suited to your type of acne and skin that will also include a home care programme. Laser therapy is a recommended option for mild to moderate acne especially those who have tried usual at home and other methods and have not achieved a desired outcome. A combined treatment program that can target several deep-rooted conditions will be discussed based on treatment outcomes desired to the individual.

Active acne is targeted using a custom-tailored cleansing treatment such as hydrodermabrasion followed by an intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment. It works by removing excess oil and dead skin from clogged pores and is effective against whiteheads, blackheads and some pimples. Laser therapy is also an excellent addon option that is minimally invasive with minimal downtime. Laser target deep sebaceous glands, pores and pigmentation in as few as 2 – 3 sessions.

Most people find that over-the-counter medications don’t often work and can be a tedious process to notice any visible change. Not to mention, generic products don’t account for an individual and can sometimes lead to allergic reactions or worse, more outbreaks. Let our team of dedicated professionals find the best possible solution for your skin. Our skin clinicians are passionate about improving and maintaining acne free skin so you can go on living your best possible self without those thick make-up concealers or worrying about your skin.

Can all types of acne be treated?

Yes, all types of acne can be treated. The treatment solutions we offer will depend on the severity and if certain acne is outside our treatment range, you will be referred to expert doctors who will be able to recommend highly effective treatments and products via prescription. Your treatment may just be a call or a click away.

Scar Removal (acne,burns,stretch marks)

Acne Scar Removal

How is acne scarring treated?

At E.W. Cosmetic Injector & Laser Clinics, we operate on one simple principle for acne scar, the deeper the scar, the deeper the treatment needed. Mild acne can be simply treated using chemical peels or hydrodermabrasion, but deeper scars need an aggressive approach. Hence, we recommend the use of CO2 fractional laser for the best resurfacing results.

Some forms of acne can result in acne scarring. If left untreated, ace scarring can result in sufferers feeling self conscious

Acne scars usually fall under one of the following types:

  • Boxcar acne scarring: This type of scarring appears as craters or divots on the skin. This causes bumps and uneven skin surface.
  • Ice pick acne scarring: These are advanced boxcar scarring appearing as deeper crevices in the skin.
  • Rolling acne scarring: Are thick scar tissue that creates rippling effects that causes acne wrinkles and skin creases.

Burn Scar & Stretch Mark Removal

At our Clinic we use CO2 Fractional Laser to remove burn scar tissue and stretch marks. Whilst quite an effective treatment for scar removal it can take numerous CO2 treatments to blend scarring and achieve a good cosmetic result. Whilst full removal of scar tissue can never be 100% guaranteed , at E.W. Cosmetic Injector & Laser Clinics we have managed to obtain great results for our clients consistently.

Rosacea & Melasma Treatments

Rosacea Treatment

Rosacea is a common, chronic, inflammatory skin condition that causes the appearance of redness on the face when superficial blood vessels are ruptured. Whilst not a serious condition, it can cause those suffering from it’s effects to feel self-conscious.

What parts of the face can rosacea effect?

The redness causes by rosacea can slowly spread beyond the nose and cheeks to the forehead and chin. In rare and more severe cases, it may affect other parts of the body. These signs are:

  • Flushing
  • Redness
  • Acne
  • Visible blood vessels or spider veins
  • Eye irritation
  • Skin thickening

Because rosacea is a chronic condition, it requires periodic treatments to keep the symptoms at bay.

Melasma Treatment

Hyperpigmentation disorders like melasma can cause severe social and emotional stress to most people. melasma is a common condition causing brown, patchy, dark pigment changes to the skin

Melasma can be a complex condition to treat

Therefore at E.W. Cosmetic Injector & Laser Clinics, your dermal consultant will work out a treatment plan in conjunction with your general practitioner to achieve an optimal and controlled treatment for your skin.

  • Fractional Ablative CO2 Laser
  • Non Ablative NdYag Resurfacing
  • Enzyme and Chemical Peels
  • IPL

Melasma usually affects women (although it can be seen on a small percentage of men too). While melasma cannot be cured, when treated using the best possible approach, its appearance can be significantly reduced. Treatment of melasma is usually a multi-factorial approach that uses a combination of Chemical peels, Fractional laser resurfacing, Q-switch Nd -Yag and prescription topical and oral agents. We advise against IPL or BBL for melasma treatments.
